Diabetes is a type of disease that affects how the body uses blood sugar or glucose.

  Glucose is an essential source of energy for tissues and muscle cells. It is also the main source of fuel for the brain.

There are different types of diabetes. However, any type of diabetes , can lead to high blood sugar. When blood sugar is too high, it can cause serious health problems.


Chronic diabetes mellitus includes type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes Reversible diabetic conditions include pre-diabetes and gestational diabetes. Prediabetes occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal. But blood sugar levels are not high enough for diabetes. And pre-diabetes can lead to diabetes unless steps are taken to prevent diabetes. Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy. But it can disappear after the baby is born.


To understand diabetes, it is important to understand that the body uses glucose as an idle.

Insulin is a hormone that comes from the gland at the back and bottom of the stomach (pancreas).

The pancreas releases insulin into the bloodstream. Insulin lowers blood sugar levels. As the amount of sugar in the blood decreases , the insulin secretion in the pancreas also decreases

Glucose is the source of energy for the formation of muscle cells and various tissues.



Once sugar is absorbed into the bloodstream , there it enters the cells with the help of insulin

Prevention

Type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented. However, the following healthy lifestyle choices can help off;

1.Eat a healthy diet. Eat a diet low in fat and calories and high in fiber Fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Eat a variety of foods to avoid boredom.

2.Get more exercise. It is important to get about 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity most days of the week. Or doing at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week. For example, I walk briskly every day.

3.Reduce excessive calories. If a person is obese, losing even 7% of body weight can reduce the risk of diabetes. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds (90.7 kilograms), losing 6.4 kilograms can reduce your risk of diabetes.
